I never drove through Spain before and I was not sure how it would be with tolls on the freeways. Soon I found out that some popular routes are charged but most routes are free. After spending some time in the north of Spain the next designated destination was the Portuguese border town Villar de Formosa.
I’ve driven lonely roads in Iceland and Sweden but what happened here was quite amazing. In Santander, I set the cruise control to 100 km/h and hit the brakes exactly three times: the first time to stop at a parking, the second time to stop in Salamanca and the third time when crossing the Portuguese border. That was it. Amazing ride of open roads.
